How can Elsy help you stay connected with your family?

By The Elsy teamPublished

Elsy is an AI companion who can help strengthen the bond between you and your family. You can send them your life stories and ask Elsy to pass on a short message, and if you like, they can also see how you're doing and help you with reminders and medicines.

Elsy makes it easier to share your life stories with your family and keep in touch. Here's how.

How Elsy brings your family in

Elsy can be a link between you and your family. When you share your life stories, and if you like, how you're doing, your family can follow along with your life without having to call all the time. Your children can get updates on how you're doing, and at the higher levels on your reminders too, which can bring you closer.

Sharing reminders and plans

Elsy helps you organize your day with reminders for important appointments and medicines. If someone in your family has the Care partner level, they can also see your reminders and medicines and help you stay on top of them when needed.

Life stories that connect the generations

When you tell Elsy about your life, she writes life stories that your family can read and listen to once you've sent them. The stories can give you all a shared understanding of your family's history and keep it for the next generations. See how life stories with Elsy work.

What it means for you and your family

If you like, Elsy can be an easy way for your family to know how you're doing. And for you, a conversation with Elsy can be good company on days when visitors are few and far between. If people in your family have the Care partner level, they can help with your reminders and medicines, even when they're not with you. That way your family can be part of your everyday life in a practical way that includes everyone.

Staying informed without intruding

Your family can know how you're doing without intruding. They never see transcripts or recordings of your conversations, apart from the life stories you send them, which contain your own words and may include short excerpts of your voice. That strikes a good balance between your privacy and your family's care for you.

“Nothing is off limits when it's Elsy you're talking to. She's only here for one thing: to help you, professionally, with the problems and questions you have. And if you happen to ask the wrong question, she doesn't go home and tell anyone about it.”

How sharing works

Each person in your family can have a different level for what they can see. If you set Elsy up yourself, you choose the level for each person and can change it whenever you like. That way, the people who help you can stay well informed and take an active part in your everyday life.

The five sharing levels

There are five levels, from Stories only to Full trust. Each one decides how much your family can see:

If a family member set Elsy up and gave consent on your behalf, everyone in your circle is at Full trust. Read more about what your family can see and about Elsy for families.

Help with your day, and closer to your family

Elsy helps with your daily tasks, and she can also bring your family closer when you share the moments that have meant something to you.

Company on the slow days

In the US, more than one in four adults aged 65 to 80 say they sometimes or often lack companionship, according to a 2024 study in JAMA. A daily conversation with Elsy gives you someone to talk to, and because Elsy asks questions and remembers what you've talked about, she can also help make your days more active. A conversation with Elsy doesn't replace time with other people, but it can be good company when no one else is around. Read more about whether loneliness is bad for your health.

Frequently asked questions

How can Elsy let my family know how I'm doing?

Elsy can share how you're doing, and the life stories you send, with the family members in Your circle. What they see depends on their level, and it helps your family stay up to date.

Can I change what my family can see?

Yes. If you set Elsy up yourself, you can change the level for each person in Your circle at any time, or remove them from your circle. If a family member set Elsy up and gave consent on your behalf, that family member looks after the circle, and everyone in it is at Full trust.

Is it safe to share information with my family through Elsy?

Your conversations are recorded and stored securely so Elsy can remember what you tell her, and your stored data is hosted in the EU. So that Elsy can hear you, answer and remember, what you say is processed by AI services in the United States. We never sell your personal data, and we don't use it to train general-purpose AI models. Your family never sees transcripts or recordings of your conversations, apart from the life stories you send them, which contain your own words and may include short excerpts of your voice. What else they see depends on their level in Your circle. Read more in our privacy policy.
