How easy is it to switch between English and another language in a voice assistant?
It's easy. In Elsy you choose the language under Language in the app's settings, and she talks with you in that language. In the middle of a conversation you can also just ask her to switch: say "Can we speak Spanish now?" and she will. Elsy speaks 15 languages, including English, Spanish and French.
Many households use more than one language, and you may feel most at home in the language you grew up with. Here's how you switch between English and another language in Elsy, an AI companion you talk with.
How do you switch languages in Elsy?
Open the Elsy app, tap Profile, then App settings, and choose Language. In older versions of the app, Language is under Settings. From then on, Elsy talks with you in the language you chose.
You can also switch in the middle of a conversation. Just ask, for example "Can we speak Spanish now?", and Elsy switches to Spanish. If you want to go back to English, ask her again.
Why it helps
You can talk in the language that feels most natural to you. And when you ask Elsy how the app works, she explains it in the language you're speaking, even if the app's screens are in another language.
Why does switching languages matter in a voice assistant?
A conversation only works if you understand each other. If you speak more than one language, a helper you talk to, like Elsy, lets you use the one you're most comfortable in. That makes Elsy an option for more people, whatever language they grew up with.
What happens behind the scenes
When you switch, the speech recognition, Elsy's answers and her voice all change to the language you chose. AI services that understand and speak many languages handle that. Now and then, though, speech recognition can mishear a few words, especially if you mix languages in the same sentence, so ask clearly when you want to switch.
Which languages does Elsy speak?
Elsy speaks 15 languages, including English, Spanish, French, German and Italian. So you can talk with her in whichever of those languages you're most at home in, wherever you live.
How Elsy learns your words
Elsy doesn't pick up a dialect by herself, but you can teach her individual words, like a word in your local dialect or how to pronounce a name. She remembers them in your next conversations.
How does speaking more than one language help in daily life?
When you can handle everyday tasks in the language that feels most natural, daily life can get a little easier. With Elsy you can set reminders and talk about your life in whichever language you like. When you tell her about your life, Elsy writes down your life stories afterward with your own words as quotes. And the reminders can help give your day some structure.
Switching when it suits you
With Elsy you can speak whichever language suits the moment, even if your family and friends live in other countries or speak a different language from you.
